CHS Artists Win Scholastic Art and Writing Award
Five CHS artists will be recognized at the Opening Awards Ceremonies at the historic Detroit Film Theater at the Detroit Institute of Arts On. This will be the first time since 2019 that an in-person ceremony will be held.
Adri Friebel, Rosie Mellor, Felix McKenna, Ryan Thomas-Palmer and Bee Whalen submitted art works to the Southeast Michigan and Thumb Art Region of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Each artist’s pieces get judged individually and if they are awarded a gold key their pieces move onto the national level of judging.
Rosie Mellor, a senior at CHS, received three gold keys for her pieces that will advance to nationals.
“It’s good to see how I’ve improved since last year, because I definitely like my pieces a lot more this year,” Mellor said. “It’s nice to get recognition and for other people to see your art.”
All of the awarded art will be on display at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit from February 13 to March 3. Stay tuned for the National Award Announcement on March 22.
