The annual CHS junior meeting was held on Monday, Dec.18 at the CHS Craft Theater.
CHS Counselors Brian Williams and Kelly Maveal presented an overview of standardized testing, CR program options, and other extra curricular opportunities for CHS juniors.
“We wanted to make sure everyone can hear the same information,” Rebecca Westrate, Assistant Dean of CHS, said. “People understood what was coming with testing so they think about their strategy between now and April to prepare for the test.”
Despite the meeting being presented to cover most of the resources for juniors, Westrate believes that it is still necessary to provide individualized planning for all the juniors.
“I’d like to have more setup dates for small group Junior meetings,” Westrate said. “Maybe a timeline for when people could do individual Junior meetings. Families could plan out their schedule for the spring, it doesn’t overwhelm the building, and everyone still kind of gets the resources they need.”
The junior meeting highlights the importance of the upcoming semester for all the juniors and makes sure everyone has the assets they need.
“I think it was good for people who didn’t know,” Kyra Kahana, CHS junior, said. ”Then they just reviewed all the test-optional materials that I think are worthwhile to know.”
Additionally, Kahana feels that it is a great opportunity for juniors to utilize resources outside of the building.
“[The Junior meeting] talks about stuff like home building, ontology, and the auto repair,” Kahana said. “They’re trying to make a workshop so that we can look at all of them, which I think that’s useful.”
