Nearing the end of their season, the Pioneer women’s track and field team competed in the SEC Championship hosted at Monroe High School. They pulled it off, sneaking the win against Saline in a close battle beating them 158.5-134. They won nine out of the 17 events and scored in all events.
For the running events, Pioneer’s 4×800 relay team of Sylvie Sanok Dufallo, Lydia Bowman, Natalie Mello and Rachel Forsyth won by 19 seconds with a time of 9:16.12. The 4×200 (Kalia Lawson, Olivia Rollins, Asiah Lee and Maya Rollins) and 4×400 (Sylvie Sanok Dufallo, Lydia Bowman, Natalie Mello and Rachel Forsyth) both got first.
Maya Rollins won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93 seconds. Freshman Olivia Rollins and Kalia Lawson came in fifth and sixth in the 100, followed by Asiah Lee in 7th. In the 200, Maya Rollins placed first with a time of 25.38. In the 400, Rachel Forsyth placed first with a PR, and then later proceeded to beat it again in the 4×400 relay. In the 300 hurdles, freshman Halle Bogle placed fifth with a time of 52.94, followed by Asiah Lee in ninth.
For distance events, Sylvie Sanok Dufallo came in first, followed by Lydia Bowman in sixth and Hana Boggess in 13th in the 1600. In the 3200, Katie Hume got 4th with a 15-second PR, Ava Griffith got sixth, Clara Piekert eighth and Lucy Pike ninth.
In field events, Yeina Han got first in the shot put at 35’3”. Sarah Carne and Ola Rominski both jumped 4’8” in the high jump. In pole vault, Natalie Mello vaulted 10’, coming in third and Ashley Hockley vaulted 7’6” and tied for sixth place. In the long jump, Valentina Carcassi got 2nd, jumping 14’7”, Sydney Fletcher jumped 13’3.5” coming in 11th, and Tess Holmes jumped 13’0.75” coming in 13th.
The Pioneers will continue the rest of the season with JV Regionals on Wednesday, May 15 and Varsity Regionals Friday, May 17. The state meet will be held on Saturday, June 1 in East Kentwood High School, where the team hopes to secure a state title.
