World of Warcraft, also referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard recently came out with a new expansion called World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Since the original game first came out, in late November 2004, there have been three expansions. The game has more than 12 million subscribers as of October 2010. “Its the best MMORPG ever! Period! 12.5 million people can’t be wrong,” said Charlie Maher.

Within the game world players control a character avatar (also referred to as a toon)  in third-person or first-person view, exploring the landscape, fighting various monsters, completing quests, and interacting with non-player characters (NPCs) or other players. As characters become more developed, they gain various talents and skills. Requiring the player to play more and develop more to the difficulty that comes with each level. While a character can be played on its own, players can also group with others to tackle more challenging content.

Personally, having played this game in the past I feel that it is a social network game where you can sit and play with other people across the world virtually. Having played with a few of my friends, its fun when we can all get together and play in the same home or if we are at are own houses we can still play together in the virtual world. Also WoW was one of the first major MMORPG’s that has changed gaming by re-defining gaming addiction. I’ve put some time into WoW and I’m not ashamed to admit it, (OK, maybe a little) but its great game to play if you are into RPG’s.

So whether you’re killing your best friends in a battle ground or teaming up with 25 other people across the world to kill the slayer of them all, the Lich King, you’re going to have a good time.

“WoW is like beer, the more you play the better it gets,” said Maher.
