The game started with Ohio State winning the tip on their home court–Value City arena in Columbus. In the first five minutes, Ohio State went on a 11-5 run with LaQuinton Ross scoring 7 of those points including a free throw to complete a three-point play.

Coming out of a TV timeout, Lenzelle Smith hit a quick layup to make the score 13-5 in favor of the Buckeyes. Zak Irvin, a star freshman for Michigan, responded with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 5. In the next 3:14 OSU outscored U of M 6-2 with Ross leading the way with 4 points. Then another TV timeout is called at 7:48

After the timeout Irvin hits 2 of 3 free throws. Then OSU went on a 5-0 run with Michigan calling a timeout at 6:00. After the timeout Michigan scored a bucket, then the game went scoreless for 1:59 and a TV timeout was called. Then OSU’s Aaron Craft hit 2 free throws before Michigan called another timeout. The half ended with Michigan going on a 5-2 run with Claris LeVert hitting a 3 and OSU calling a timeout with 8 seconds left. The score was 26-30

The second half began with Michigan winning the jump ball and Nik Stauskas hitting a quick 3, to make it 29-30. But then from 19:21 to 16:52 OSU went on a 7-0 run with Ross hitting a jumper and knocking down 2 free throws. The score is now 29-37 in favor of Ohio State.

Starting at 16:51 and ending at 8:58 Michigan went on a 18-6 run and capturing the lead. It started with Glenn Robinson getting a layup. Horford lead the way by scoring 6 points, followed by Derrick Walton Jr. who had 5. Michigan is now leading 49-43.

The games final 9 minutes ended with Michigan going on a 21-17 run, with a final score of 70-60. Walton Jr. lead Michigan in rebounds with 10 and assists with 6. Stauskas lead Michigan in points with 15. This marked Michigan’s first win in Columbus in 11 years and more importantly John Beilein’s first win in Columbus.
