Pioneer Lacrosse Schedule Release

The Ann Arbor Pioneer Pioneers have recently released their schedule for the 2010 Men’s Varsity Lacrosse season. Their opponents include former number one team in the nation and state champions, Birmingham Brother Rice, as their first game of the season. The Pioneers will also have the chance to avenge their losses to University of Detroit Jesuit, who took away their chance to be in the state finals last season, and to Saline.

The Pioneers graduated ten seniors last year including Community High School’s own defenseman Greg Wilder-Romans. Others include long stick midfielder Sean Brodie (2nd team all state), midfielder Kurt Lymburner (1st team all state), starting goalie Cy Abdelnour (two time all state), and attack man Nathan Meyer (three-time all state and all American). Even though the Pioneers have graduated three all state players and one all American, they still have two all state defensemen:  two-time all state defenseman Max Zwolan, and Nick Mrjoian (3rd team all state).

Without the presence of all the seniors that have left, hopefully this year’s seniors are willing to step up to the challenge. For example, when Cy Abdelnour became injured, then junior back up goalie Ben Weber was more than willing to take Abdelnour’s place.

However, if the Pioneers want a shot at being state champions, this is the best year for them or for any team to win States. Birmingham Brother Rice has also graduated many of their talented seniors. But before the Pioneers can start thinking about playoffs, they must tackle the very tough schedule in front of them.  The first official game for the Pioneers is on March 27, 2010 at Birmingham Brother Rice.
