The 55th Ann Arbor Film Festival in a Jiffy
This past week has seen a variety of quirky, funny, serious and enlightening experimental films come through the Michigan Theatre and various other locations in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF), the oldest experimental film festival in North America, wrapped up its six day program this past Sunday. In case you didn’t get to attend one of its events between March 21-26, here are a few snapshots of the festival.
“In some ways [the AAFF is] totally different, and in other ways it’s the same,” said Donald Harrison, who use to serve as the director for the AAFF from 2009 to 2012. “It’s 6 days of independent experimental cinema from all over the world, and it’s an adventure. It’s a lot of the most interesting and cool people from our community and other communities coming and converging around the more adventurous side of cinema.” Harrison described the AAFF as “Psychedelic-subconscious.”
