Humans of Jones: Shirley Beckley

“I just remembered. I was a little girl and I remember going [to Jones]. What stands out in my mind is [that] there were so many of us black kids here, but there were only white teachers — mostly female teachers. But I don’t remember any incidents. Mostly, Jones school was our playground. We would play softball, between there and Summit, which is now Wheeler Park, those were our playgrounds.”
