With only three more weeks of their season, the Pioneer women’s track and field team snatches a victory at regionals before heading on to states. The team won the meet with 132 points and scored in 15 out of 17 events.
In order to move on to states, athletes must run the qualifying time at regionals. For Pioneer, this wasn’t much of a challenge, as they ended the night with 12 state cuts in 11 different events. Along with all of the individual state cuts, all four of the relay teams made the state times as well.
The night started off great, with many local athletes in both field and running events. From Pioneer, three of the best came from the team’s captains: Maya Rollins, Rachel Forsyth and Yeina Han. Rollins won the 100 hurdles and 200, along with being part of the winning 4×200 relay. Forsyth started off by running in the 4×800 relay, which had a winning time of 9:09 minutes, getting their season best as a relay and dropping seven seconds from SEC Championships on May 9. She then went on to win the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. Han also had a great day in field events. She started off by getting a personal best in discus, throwing 101’4” and got in eighth. She also got a season best in the shot put, throwing 35’10” and got third.
In the sprinting events, Asiah Lee had a massive personal best in the 300 hurdles and ended up in fourth and in the 100, Kalia Lawson got fourth. In the 100 hurdles, Ndeye Diop got sixth with a time of 16.73 in finals and a season best! For the distance events, in the 1600 Sylvie Sanok Dufallo got second. She also placed fourth in the 800 along with teammate Natalie Mello in eighth.
In field events, Mello got second in pole vault, vaulting 10’6″. In high jump Ola Rominski got 8th, jumping 4’10”. In long jump, Clare Kotre and Valentina Carcassi got 10th and 11th.
