A Different Sect of Fashion: Saris
One of the most common clothing in India is a sari, and its styles for various occasions have multiplied greatly in modern times. The root of the word saree or sari is from Sanskrit, meaning “strip of cloth.” In different parts of the country, it is draped differently. For example, Gujurathis wear the a ghagra choli over the right shoulder instead of a sari over the left. There is also a half-sari, which is typically worn by younger girls. Common additions to a sari are bangles or necklaces.
Common fabrics for saris:
Silk – (typically worn at) weddings, happy occasions or religious festivals
Chiffon – evening wear, parties
Georgette – evening wear, parties
Net – latest fashion
