As the first semester comes to an end, students start thinking about their schedules for the second semester of the year. While students are selecting their schedules for the semester during registration, they have the opportunity to drop/add a class.
CHS counselor Brian Williams gave some tips for students when they are dropping/adding a class to their schedule for the upcoming semester.
“First I think, knowing why you want to do this, is it a need? Or want?” Williams said. “Second I would talk with your parents, make sure this change won’t be bad and it is thought through. Third, coming in with an idea of the change you want before talking or emailing us while being open to changes is good because sometimes a class is just too full to add you to that class.”
Williams also said that it’s important to know your own schedule, and told students to not feel afraid to ask questions or to talk about it as an idea.
“We can always evaluate and decide if [your drop/add class] doesn’t work.” Williams said.
While freshman, sophomores and juniors need to have a full schedule, consisting of six classes, seniors are able to have a reduced schedule.
“If they fulfill the requirements [they can have a reduced schedule]” Williams said.
He also mentioned that students who are curious about having a shorter schedule, or students who want to save up money by working more, or who take harder college classes should talk to counselors about those options for scheduling.
If you are looking to change your schedule for semester two, CHS counselors are able to help you drop/add a class to your schedule. Check the Forum Bulletin for the drop/add form and more information.
