Community High’s Digital Photography Show

The Community High School photo show at Sweetwaters coffee shop in Kerrytown features an eclectic display of student photography. Photographs range from nature pieces to cityscapes, and captured by iPhones to Nikons. Around 30 photographs are on display around the coffee shop and are also available for purchase for $20 each. All proceeds from sales go to the Community High art department. All of these pictures were taken by Steve Coron’s block two digital photography class.

These pieces captured by students give a glimpse into the world of teenagers and how they express themselves. Artistic expression is a very important part of someone’s identity and giving people the means to express that is important as well. Students got to pick their favorite image of theirs to have printed, mounted and displayed. The photos do not have a theme besides the fact that they are images captured by the digital photography class. Most of the images have very warm yellow and orange tones. This brings the gallery of pictures together to make them seem more collective with still keeping each images individual integrity.

In my opinion the one thing holding the show back is the hanging of the pictures. Some pictures are not mounted equal distance from each other or mounted at odd angles. This can take away from the crispness of the printing and mounting of the photographs.

The show does not have a set end date as of right now, but should be on display through Feb. 2017.

Photographs displayed were taken by, Cheyanne Anderson, Linus Brush-Mindell, Isaiah Casteel, Nichole Diaz-Pezua, Ally Einhaus, David Estes, Leah Fleming, Iosmani Frometas-Canales, Kathryn Garcia, Allison Garcia-Hernandez, Jack Cassell, Caitlin Mahoney, Jacqueline Mortell, Jaleana Pace, Cameron Palmer, Kim Pieske, Alec Redding, Ella Ridge, Eleni Tsadis, Felix Weber-Bailey, Ethan Ziolek, Jay Walker, Makela Lynn, Eve Shikanov and Grace Jensen.
