On Saturday, March 12, 2011, the Community High School mock trial teams “A” and “B” competed in the Pontiac regional of the Michigan Mock Trial Tournament, with Team A winning in a split decision of 2-1. The two separate teams competed in the morning against other mock trial teams from Michigan. However, for the afternoon round, they competed against each other for a spot in the state tournament on March 26. Both teams had won each of their trials in the morning round and were pitted against each other in the final afternoon trial by the tournament’s power matching process.

The trial lasted nearly three hours, with both teams displaying an excellent understanding of the case in a trial coach Cheryl Grace described as “a match of the titans”. The two teams have competed against each other during scrimmages in the past, however, this was the first time the two teams from Community High were forced to compete against each other in the Michigan Mock Trial Tournament. Team A will continue to the state championship to defend their state champions title after placing among the top seven in the regional tournament. Team B just barely missed a spot in the top seven as a result of the final trial against Team A.
