PRE-FALL 2010

PRE-FALL 2010

Here in Ann Arbor it’s finally starting to get cold and truly feel like winter. I have just now started looking for a coat to endure winter 2009, but fashion is already starting on Fall 2010. Insane. Pre-Fall of all the other seasons in fashion, seems to be the most varied and commercial. I think of it as a trial-collection almost. With many designers, you will see how the “look” of a collection is with the Pre-Fall collection, and with the Fall collection, an elaboration.

Some of the Pre-Fall Collections thus far:

Jason Wu Pre-Fall 1Jason Wu 2

Jason Wu — The 27-year-old designer whose name is synonymous with Michelle Obama for his design of her inaugural gown, created a collection that consisted of tech-y looking separates and versatile dresses. My favorite look of the collection (left), shows a real progression in Wu’s ability. The contrast of the fabrics in the sweater and skirt to the tights have a modern appeal and idiosyncrasy that people seem to crave these days.

Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2010 1

Burberry Prorsum — Any Pre-Fall season, there is one designer that consistently designs the most perfect and practical clothes that maintain being modern and beautiful: Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum. This season was no different. I don’t know if it’s because he has the history of Burberry to work off of or what, but every season I find myself wanting whatever it is he’s created. This season there were coats in traditional cuts but found with unusual and interesting furs or fabrics, cropped trousers, and denim.

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2010Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2010 2

Alexander Wang — For the women who wears Alexander Wang, the past seasons have been good. American sportswear redone, flipped, and modified to create something insanely trendy and edgy. But the football inspired jackets don’t always translate to day or work. His Pre-Fall collection was cleaned up and streamlined, at best with the elongated skirts which gave a silhouette that seemed fresh and interesting. One of the looks (left), seemed like kind of a ’90s grunge update, in black with sheer stripes. the others had the facets of workwear (i.e lapels, jackets) but always with something off: sleeveless or mixed fabrics.
