FALL 2010 AT A GLANCE

FALL+2010+AT+A+GLANCE

Fall 2010. We are now a decade into the 21st century of fashion. Contrary to what one might’ve guessed, fashion has gone back to simple, earthly, and rugged design.

FUR

Over the past couple of seasons fur has been making its way into the forefront of fashion. This season has been most certainly the biggest season for fur in the past decade. Seen on just about everything at Chanel, or paired with plastic at Marc Jacobs, the way that it is being used is as varied as ever.

On you: Fur can be incorporated into your wardrobe in any capacity, it’s up to you. If you want to look more abreast on trends, go for the untraditional, i.e a fur bag, or fur mixed with unexpected fabrics.

CELINE

This season marked Phoebe Philo’s irrefutable time of reign. Last season was her return to fashion after a period out of the spotlight, and now that she’s back, fashion is loving her. Her designs are simple and have a genuine quality to them, there seems to be a heartfelt precision in Philo’s designs.

On You: Neutral Colors always, the look of Celine focuses on simplicity and the utmost precision in fit. The woman to wears celine experiments more with texture and shape rather than color.

CAMEL COAT

After the resurgence of camel as a staple last season, the camel coat has been seen everywhere from the backs of runway models to editors. Camel adds a sense of prestige and understated luxury, and is for someone who doesn’t need crystals to flaunt style.

On You: In a camel coat, it has got to be structured. No slouchiness, and tailoring will probably be necessary. Chloe showed coats that were perfect examples, but keep in mind that camel is a neutral, so it’s up to you to pair with neutral or non-neutral colors.

SHEARLING AVIATOR JACKET

The biker jacket has had its hey-day and is looking increasingly tired. Leave it to Christopher Bailey of Burberry Prorsum to come up with the next thing: a shearling aviator jacket! the high collars and fur next to the leather give an insouciance to any look, but are less aggressive looking than a biker jacket.

On you: To avoid looking like you’re wearing a costume, be mindful of wearing this masculine jacket with other clothing that have masculine shapes (unless you prefer an adrogynous look, which can be good). Wear this coat over a lacy dress as seen above, and balance that out with some knee high boots.

STRONG BROWS

Fashion is  a reactionary art form, it reacts in some ways to culture and society, but moreover reacts to itself. Over the past few seasons there was a no-eyebrow trend, where at many runway shows the models would have bleached brows. Of course, now a few seasons down the line a strong brow is back.

On you: Eyebrows are tough, so before you decide to grow out your brows consider darkening or thickening them with brow pencil. Also, try brushing your brows up for a more rugged look.
